Empowering Future Leaders

Zukeran Elementary School’s student leadership afterschool club, sponsored by Oona Delaney, Literacy Support Specialist, proudly hosted elections for class president, vice president, secretary, and class representatives. These elections were more than just a fun activity—they were a meaningful opportunity for students to engage in democratic processes, build confidence, and contribute to a thriving school community.

Student leadership initiatives like these directly support the goals outlined in the DoDEA Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, particularly in fostering student excellence, shared responsibility, and organizational effectiveness. By participating in elections, students practice communication, collaboration, and critical thinking—skills essential for lifelong success. They also learn the value of civic engagement and the importance of representing their peers with integrity and empathy.

Moreover, student leadership contributes to student well-being by promoting a sense of belonging and purpose. When students feel heard and empowered to make a difference, their social-emotional development flourishes. The club provides a safe space for students to express ideas, solve problems, and celebrate their unique strengths.

Community involvement is another cornerstone of this initiative. Through service projects, school-wide events, and peer mentoring, elected leaders can make an impact. Their efforts will help build an all embracing and supportive school culture—one where every student feels valued.
