Third grade spreads joy with winter serenades
OKINAWA, Japan – Through collaboration and creativity, the third grade team at Zukeran Elementary showed how learning extends beyond the classroom into shared experiences that unite and inspire.
As winter break approached, the third grade team – Ms. Vanover, Mr. Villa, and Ms. Legros –came together to create a heartwarming experience for the school community. Partnering with Ms. Schultz at Wiesbaden Elementary in Europe, they coordinated a special event that brought music and joy to students across campuses.
Students from each school serenaded peers during lunchtime with winter celebration songs from around the world, filling the commons with festive cheer. Students ages 5 to 10 enjoyed the melodies while sharing lunch, creating a joyful atmosphere.
"It was so much fun to collaborate with fellow teachers, decorate our beautiful building alongside the students, and share the joy of performing for our school community,” said Mr. Legros. “These moments remind us how creativity and teamwork make learning come alive."
This event showcased how the 21st-century building serves as the “Third Teacher,” with creative use of its beautiful spaces. The central staircase leading into the commons became a stunning stage, adding to the beauty, culture, and happiness of our school and military-connected students.
