Students meet to share how they feel about moving to a new grade level.

Change can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming—especially for elementary school students facing big transitions. This year, students at our school gathered in small group meetings to discuss what it means to move up a grade level or transfer to a new school, even a new country.

From Okinawa, some students are heading to schools in the United States, others are transitioning to Japanese schools, and some will continue their journey at another DODEA school on island. Recognizing the importance of preparation and peer support, our students took the initiative to request guidance sessions, particularly those moving up to fourth grade.

In all grade levels, students participated in small buddy groups, where they shared their thoughts and excitement, asked questions about their new schools, and reflected on their experiences. These sessions helped ease nerves and strengthen a sense of community. To celebrate their next steps, each student received a parting gift, a small but meaningful token to remind them that they will always be part of the Zukeran school family, no matter where they go.

Through these conversations and shared moments, students embraced change with confidence, supported by friends and teachers who encouraged them every step of the way."
