Zukeran Elementary School kicked off Month of the Military Child on April 6 with a lively opening assembly featuring the III Marine Expeditionary Force Party Band, welcoming students back from Spring Break with music and celebration. The event marked the start of a month filled with special activities honoring the resilience and contributions of military-connected students from PreK through fifth grade.

Zukeran ES hosted ninety‑five students and fifteen staff from Okinawa Catholic Gakuen for a day of cultural exchange, learning, and friendship. Students bonded through Taiko drums, STEM activities, and shared classroom experiences. Teacher and principal reflections highlighted the value of cross‑cultural connection, supporting DoDEA’s goals for student excellence and community partnerships.

Zukeran Fifth graders explored solubility by conducting hands‑on experiments with salt, Epsom salt, and a mystery substance. Through measuring, filtering, and observing crystal formation, they used real scientific methods to identify the unknown material. In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, sailors and civilians from Okinawa’s 3rd Dental Battalion visited Zukeran elementary school to teach Pre-K through fifth-grade students how to care for their teeth and prevent gum disease. Through hands-on lessons, students learned proper brushing and flossing techniques and the importance of healthy habits. The event supported National Health Education Standards by promoting preventive care, skill-building, and lifelong healthy habits.
